Things to do outdoors in Taunton

For nature enthusiasts, visit Vivary Park and take a walk along the canal. This delightful oasis is a free activity in Taunton for the whole family.

Vivary Park offers scenic beauty and recreational opportunities. This expansive green space features manicured gardens, tranquil ponds, and ample open areas for picnicking or leisurely walks. The park is ideal for children, as it boasts a great children’s play area - including high ropes - making it an ideal spot for families to spend quality time together.

If you're seeking free things to do in Taunton, a visit to the Museum of Somerset should be at the top of your list. Housed in the historic Taunton Castle, this museum showcases the region's fascinating heritage through captivating exhibits and interactive displays. It's a great educational outing for both adults and children alike.

The food on offer at the Courtyard Café at the museum showcases Somerset’s great-tasting produce. Here you can enjoy tasty freshly made food and drinks - including vegan options.

Both Fyne Court and Hestercombe have vegan options at cafes and gardens with stunning views. Fyne Court is ideal for dogs, too.

The French Weir cafe is worth checking out for great vegan options. You can also explore some great walks in the meadows for dogs and there’s a nearby children’s park. You’ll also find some water activities including canoeing.

Our favourite vegan restaurants in Taunton

Taunton has a vegan takeaway and cafe, but as yet, no dedicated vegan restaurants. There is, however, an abundance of vegan food in Taunton.

Here are some of our top picks for dining in, takeaway, and grabbing a casual bite to eat in Taunton:

  • The Coffee Station in Vivary Park - 100% vegan, and you can even order entire cakes for collection from here.

  • The Shed Cafe in Goodlands Gardens - This is the gorgeous park where we hold our vegan markets; a perfect location to showcase vegan food, cruelty-free clothing, lifestyle products, and more - whilst supporting local businesses.

  • Rumwell Farm Shop just outside of Taunton (on the road to Wellington) has a separate vegan menu with some really great options! It’s best to book ahead as they are usually very busy.

  • The Velvet Garden is worth another mention. They only open a few nights a week and you need to book - but it's the most fab vegan experience. It's fine dining, a taster menu using seasonal fruit and veg, and locally sourced food. It always gets booked up really quickly.

  • For a city vibe with a vegan menu: Cosy Club, as well as several chains such as Pizza Express, Wildwood, and Ask.

  • Turmeric Kitchen is fantastic for Indian food with a big vegan menu.  We also love Mattancherry (perfect for both takeaway and dining in) and Guddi and Gikki also have a must-try vegan menu.

  • Saucery offers vegan-only takeaways on Friday evenings.

  • Lotus Flower is a great Thai restaurant featuring several good vegan options.

  • The Olive Tree does a fantastic humus, olive and avocado baguette for lunchtime loveliness.

  • Dough Taunton is a delightful artisan bakery and cafe with great vegan options. Enjoy their sourdough range baked in-house using only organic flour and local ingredients.

  • If you’re exploring Taunton without kids, head to Mambos for good music and a dance! There’s a great menu to keep your energy levels up - with delicious vegan food, too.
